Are you a sucker for a good pair of heels? Me too! They’re an essential part of my wardrobe, but there’s nothing worse than coming home from a great night out with your feet throbbing in pain and agony.
So how can you wear heels without the pain? Is it even possible, or just another myth? Will we always have to grin and bear it when it comes to looking fabulous?
Here are some great tips on how to wear high heels, without having to pay a very painful price.
- Get the right size – Your foot changes size over the years, so it’s best to have your feet measured at least once a year. When you’re out on a shoe shopping trip, get your feet sized, including the width and length as well. A lot of people would be surprised that they are wearing the wrong sized shoe.
- Find your foot type – Do you have a flat foot, or a high arch? Wet your foot and put it on some paper. This will help you tell whether the impression is flat, or if there is a gap where you have an arch. This is why you could be having pain with your heels.
- Get a thicker heel – Having thin heels cause your feet to wobble, which eventually causes pain. You can still wear your stilettos occasionally, but try to avoid them for everyday wear. Choose a thicker heel for more comfort.
- Go for a platform – Thin soles will give you pain in the bottom of your foot. Having a thicker sole or a platform will offset some of the pressure when you’re walking. Opting for a rubbery material will absorb some of the pressure too.
- Take breaks – Kick off your shoes and stretch out your ankles and toes every so often.
- Stretch your feet – When you take your heels off, stretch your feet and your ankles out. This helps ease some of the muscles used while you’ve been walking.
